Description
The Order Mantodea (Mantids) are a fascinating group of specialist predatory Insects closely related to the Blattodea (Cockroaches). These animals have developed unique methods and adaptations for capturing prey.
This course will cover the biology and diversity of the Mantids and the taxonomy of the Order. Specimens will be presented under high quality microscopic imaging equipment in order to observe morphological structures and their variation between species.
At the end of this course, students will be able to identify common Mantids to the Sub-Family Level and have a far greater understanding of the group.
NOTE: Students wishing to undertake this Module will need to have completed the Introduction to Entomology Course NIOE - 01C.
