At the suggestion of the Council of Heads of Australian Entomological Collections, the National Institute of Entomology will be conducting this training course for entomological technicians working with research collections of insects and related organisms for taxonomic study and identification.

The course is designed to teach participants how to collect, prepare and curate entomological material to a stage ready for scientific identification by specialist taxonomists. The course will comprise a series of demonstrations on these aspects as they relate to the major orders of insects and related arthropods.  All demonstrations will be conducted by Institute staff expert in this area of study. Specimen identification will not be covered in this course.

The course will be conducted daily over a one week period commencing in early 2026.

NOTE: This course will only be conducted yearly and only 30 places have been allocated, so the Institute advises that you enroll early to secure your position.
NOTE: Pre Paid and Pre - Enrolled students will be given first acceptance to these courses.   

COURSE UNIT REQUIREMENTS: Students for the Entomological Technicians Course must complete the following Courses and Modules prior to enrolling:

Introduction to Entomology (Certificate Course) - NIOE - 01C
Insect Morphology and Structure  (Certificate Course) - Module 1 - NIOE - 06C
Insect Morphology and Structure  (Certificate Course) - Module 1 - NIOE - 07C

PLEASE NOTE: Enrollment Positions for this Course Will Be Limited To 30. Course Registration Numbers Subject to Venue Covid-19 Requirements.
